Vitra Eames DKX Wire Chair - No Upholstery FAQs
What is the DKX Wire Chair?
The DKX is the dining-height version (seat height ~43 cm) of the iconic Eames Wire Chair, designed by Charles & Ray Eames in 1951. It blends lightweight transparency with functional design thanks to its bent and welded steel-wire shell.
Materials & Finish Options
• Seat shell & base: Steel wire, available in polished chrome or powder-coated finishes.
• Glides: Plastic glides for carpets; optional felt pads protect hard floors.
Dimensions
• Width: 49 cm
• Depth: 51 cm
• Overall height: 85 cm
• Seat height: approx 43 cm
Outdoor Compatibility
• Powder‑coated versions (basic dark or white) are suitable for temporary or seasonal outdoor use. Clean and store them in a sheltered spot after exposure.
Why Choose the Unupholstered Version?
• Visual lightness: The open wire construction creates a striking and airy appearance.
• Durable and practical: Steel shell resists wear, is easy to clean, and adapts well to modern spaces.
• Flexible use: Ideal for indoor settings—and powder-coated versions can be used outdoors—for dining, meetings or casual seating.
Care Instructions
• Wipe down the steel frame with a damp cloth as needed.
• If used outside, rinse off debris, dry thoroughly, and store indoors when not in use.
• Check and replace glides to protect your flooring.
