What kind of chair is the AC 5 Meet designed to be?

It’s part of the Vitra AC 5 group designed by Antonio Citterio (2017) in collaboration with Vitra.  The AC 5 Meet version is the “classic conference” / meeting-chair variant: it features a polished die-cast aluminium base, tilt/rock mechanism (lockable upright) and a self-supporting backrest with horizontally-stitched padding. 

What mechanism and adjustments does it have?

• The seat uses a tilt mechanism which can be locked in the upright position. 

• It has a “shock-absorbing seat suspension” combined with the rocking/tilt to give comfort even in longer meetings. 

• Some versions include arm-rests (polished aluminium ring armrests, optional leather pads) or no armrests at all. 

What materials and upholstery options are available?

• Base: polished die-cast aluminium (four-star base) on glides. 

• Seat & backrest: polyurethane foam padding. Covering in fabric (e.g. Plano fabric) or leather. 

• A wide selection of upholstery colours and premium finish options. 

Is it suitable for long meetings or heavy use?

Yes — the design emphasises “seating comfort even during prolonged periods of sitting” thanks to its suspension and tilt mechanism.  Note: while excellent for meetings, it may not offer the full adjustability of dedicated task chairs used for full-day solo workstation use.

Here are the key dimensions:

How do I care for it and maximise lifespan?

• Regularly dust and clean upholstery with appropriate products for fabric or leather.

• Avoid sharp objects, excessive sunlight on leather and undue strain or misuse of mechanism.

• If the tilt/lock mechanism or base needs servicing, use authorised service/support from Vitra.

• For configuration (casters vs glides) check your floor type: glides may suit fixed meeting room chairs better than castors.
